first on 13... all of central iowa's waterways are within their banks this morning, despite the rain. but the city of luther remains history will repeat itself... i'm afraid that everything will get like lodged in the tiles and everything will fill up and back up and i'll be back to where i was at square one again. last month, residents were plagued with some of the worst flooding they'd ever seen. luther has no sewer system, but officials say an inadequate storm tile system is to blame. the system is dated, damaged, and unable to remove storm water at the

measure to replace it... and the mayor hopes leaders will take action soon. i'm hoping the council votes on tuesday to go forward and start soliciting bids and working on this project as fast as possible. if the city council votes in favor of the project, construction could begin as early as the spring. the trip between urbandale and johnston will soon take a little longer... the northwest 100th street bridge over interstate 35-80 will be removed this winter. the 2 lane bridge dates back to when the interstate was first install back in the 19-50's. it will be replaced by a 9 million dollar, 5 lane bridget that's set to open in the interchange planned for the area. jury selection continues in the trial of a clive man accused of killing a child.... joe lopez is charged with first degree murder and child endangerment causing death.

his girlfriend's daughter in november of 20-14. the 1 year old suffered a skull fracture and broken ribs. she later died at the hospital. opening statements will begin once the pool of jurors is narrowed from 38 to 14. that could happen sometime this morning. the man accused of committing waukee's first murder in decades is due in court... brendan mcguinness is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in dallas county this morning. police say he shot and killed a man in the driveway of the man's home back in november. mcguiness has pleaded not to begin february first. authorities are investigating an attack on a correctional officer... it happened in a living unit at the anamosa state penitentiary wednesday night. officials say taylor denney assaulted year sentence for several charges. the officer was treated for minor injuries and released. denney is now being held in an

some waukee residents are who keep them safe... shooting waukee's 10 week "citizen police academy" wrapped up yesterday. the academy gave people a first hand look at what officers experience on the job... from investigating a crime, to incarcerating a suspect... and it was more than just curiosity that drove some to participate... i manage an apartment complex so i thought it would be good to get in good with the police, plus i thought it would better myself. i just wanted to learn more, about what the officers do in waukee as well as how i would be able to help them as a business owner. nearly 2 dozen people enrolled in the academy. the y-m-c-a of greater des moines is searching for a new leader... we have a lot of things that we're working on at the y a lot

have been out there in the public that we're going to continue to work on and it was the time.. the to take the y moving forward to take us to even greater heights. and vernon delpesce won't be the person to take them there. resigned yesterday morning... delpesce had been under fire for the swimming poll at the new wellmark y-m- c-a. the project was supposed to be finished last summer, but right now the "y" doesn't have the money to complete it. the des moines public school district is also on the hunt for new employees... the district is looking to hire more than 200 teachers for the upcoming school year. the positions are in a wide range of grade levels and subject areas. those who are interested can sign up for an interview at a career fair tomorrow... it begins at eight and runs until noon at the iowa events center. walk ins will be interviewed as time allows.

restrictions in a virginia town hall last night... he's expanding background checks for gun buyers and narrowing the so called "gun show loophole." that leaves most small and private sellers exempt from keeping formal sales records. a "c-n-n o-r-c" poll found the majority of americans support his measures... but less than half think they would actually limit gun violence. many of the presidential candidates have something to say about the president's plans. we will likely hear more about that from the 5 of them making stops in the state today. that includes republicans ted cruz, bernie sanders, rand paul, and rick santorum. martin o'malley is the only democrat. this is the latest wave of hopefuls flocking to iowa, ahead of the february 1st caucus. it seems there's an app for the caucus.

police say 22 year old dakota koehrsen assaulted a woman late last night. it happened at the super 8 motel in marshalltown. koehrsen was arrested at the scene. he's being held in the marshall county jail. university of iowa is asking its students to leave their hover boards at home... federal authorities say the motorized scooters can cause serious injury, or even catch fire. the university is one of 20 across the country that have issued bans. it applies to iowa's dorm rooms and campus buildings... if a fire breaks out, that's our main concern. if a fire breaks out, i mean it could damage the room, joining rooms, and things like that. fires burn hot, and it can damage a lot of property. other schools that have banned hover boards include george mason
